About The Noble Companion
What is The Noble Companion?
The Noble Companion is a fine-art animal portraiture experience specializing in dogs, cats, and horses. My work combines professional photographic techniques with an artistic approach to lighting, composition, and expression.
Rather than simply documenting how your companion looks, my goal is to create an enduring work of art that reflects their individual character, beauty, and presence.
Who is the photographer behind The Noble Companion?
I'm Kelli Kirkpatrick, a PPA Master Photographer with more than 38 years of professional photography experience and a degree in Photography and Studio Arts from the University of Pittsburgh.
Throughout my career, I've photographed countless people, animals, and meaningful moments. I've also been honored with professional photography awards and recognition among Florida's Top 10 photographers.
The Noble Companion brings together my love of animals, my appreciation for fine art, and the experience I've gained throughout my photographic career.
What makes The Noble Companion different from traditional pet photography?
My approach is rooted in fine-art portraiture rather than traditional pet photography.
I focus on beautiful lighting, thoughtful composition, natural expression, and carefully controlled detail. Each portrait is individually refined to create artwork with depth, elegance, and a timeless quality.
The emphasis is always on your companion, without distracting props or elaborate settings.
What animals do you photograph?
I specialize in dogs, cats, and horses. Each species requires a different approach, and every session is planned around the individual animal's personality, temperament, and comfort.
Can I be photographed with my companion?
Absolutely. The relationship between you and your companion is something very special.
Although The Noble Companion primarily focuses on individual animal portraiture, portraits that include their people may be arranged during your consultation.
Can you photograph more than one animal?
Yes. Multiple companions can be photographed individually, and together when their temperaments and circumstances allow.
We'll discuss the number of animals and your portrait goals before scheduling so that adequate time can be planned.
Where is The Noble Companion located?
The Noble Companion is based in The Villages, Florida, and serves clients throughout Central Florida, including the Ocala area.
Portrait sessions are arranged at suitable locations based on the animal, the desired artwork, and the creative requirements of the session.
The Portrait Session
Does my dog need to be professionally trained?
Not at all. While basic commands can be helpful, professional training is certainly not a requirement.
I've worked with animals of many personalities and energy levels. Patience, timing, and an understanding of animal behavior are far more important than perfect obedience.
What if my dog won't sit still?
That's perfectly fine. Some of the most beautiful expressions happen naturally.
I work at your companion's pace, allowing time for movement, breaks, and opportunities to capture the right expression.
A successful portrait doesn't require your dog to behave perfectly.
What if my animal is nervous or shy?
Your companion's comfort and safety always come first.
I allow time for animals to become familiar with me, the equipment, and their surroundings. Sessions are never rushed, and I adjust my approach according to their individual needs.
How do you get animals to look at the camera?
A variety of techniques can help capture an animal's attention, including sounds, toys, treats, and simple movements.
More importantly, I pay close attention to expression, posture, and the small moments that reveal an animal's personality.
Do you photograph cats?
Yes. Cats are wonderful subjects for fine-art portraiture.
Their expressions, beautiful eyes, graceful movement, and distinctive personalities lend themselves especially well to artistic photography.
Because cats generally prefer familiar surroundings and their own schedules, sessions are planned with their comfort in mind.
Do you photograph horses?
Yes. Horses are especially beautiful subjects for fine-art portraiture.
Their strength, elegance, movement, and distinctive personalities provide wonderful opportunities to create dramatic, timeless artwork.
Equine sessions are arranged at suitable locations where the horse can remain safe and comfortable.
What happens if my animal doesn't cooperate?
Animals are wonderfully unpredictable, and that's part of what makes them special.
I allow time for patience, adjustments, and breaks. If circumstances prevent us from creating the portraits we planned, we'll discuss the most appropriate next step.
I will never compromise an animal's comfort or safety simply to capture a photograph.
Preparing for Your Session
Do we need a consultation before booking?
Yes. Every portrait begins with a conversation.
I'll learn about your companion, discuss your vision for the artwork, explain the portrait process, and answer any questions you may have.
We'll also discuss suitable locations, preparation, and the finished artwork you may wish to display.
What should I bring to my session?
For dogs, I generally recommend bringing a leash, favorite treats, water, and a familiar toy that may help capture their attention.
For cats and horses, preparation will vary depending on the location and individual animal.
I'll provide specific recommendations before your session.
Should I have my dog groomed before the session?
I recommend scheduling grooming several days before your portrait session, particularly if your dog normally receives professional grooming.
This allows their coat to settle into a natural appearance.
A clean, well-brushed coat and attention to the eyes and face can make a beautiful difference in the finished portrait.
Should my animal wear a collar?
Whenever it is safe and practical, I prefer a simple, unobtrusive collar or other appropriate restraint.
Safety is always the priority. Leashes and certain distractions may be minimized during the artistic finishing process when appropriate.
How long does a portrait session last?
Session length varies depending on the animal, the number of companions, the location, and the portraits being created.
I allow sufficient time to work patiently and thoughtfully rather than rushing through the experience.
We'll discuss the anticipated session length during your consultation.
Your Portraits & Artwork
What happens after the photography session?
Following your session, I carefully review the photographs and select the strongest images for your portrait presentation.
Each selected image is professionally prepared for viewing, allowing you to appreciate the expressions, compositions, and artistic possibilities.
You'll then have an opportunity to choose your favorites and select the artwork that best suits your home and personal preferences.
What is an Image Premiere?
Your Image Premiere is the opportunity to view your selected portraits and choose the images you would like to have transformed into finished artwork.
I'll guide you through the available collections, sizes, and presentation options so you can make confident decisions without feeling overwhelmed.
Image Premieres may be arranged in person or online.
Do I need to know what artwork I want before my session?
Not at all.
Some clients already have a particular wall or room in mind, while others prefer to see their portraits before deciding.
I'm happy to help you explore the possibilities and select artwork that complements both your home and the portraits themselves.
Can you help me choose the right size for my wall?
Absolutely.
Artwork should feel appropriately scaled to the space where it will be displayed. I'll help you consider proportions, placement, and the visual impact of different sizes.
My goal is to create artwork that looks as beautiful in your home as it does in your imagination.
Are the portraits retouched?
Yes. Every selected portrait receives professional artistic finishing.
This may include careful adjustments to color, tone, contrast, background details, and other elements that contribute to the finished composition.
My goal is always to preserve your companion's natural appearance and individual character while creating a beautifully refined work of art.
Can I purchase digital files?
The Noble Companion is primarily an artwork-focused portrait experience.
My emphasis is on creating beautifully finished photographic artwork designed to be displayed and enjoyed for years to come.
Social-media-sized digital files are available for purchased images. Printable digital files are not included.
